Fantasy Scoreboard 2014: Week 1

I woke up Sunday like it was Christmas morning. Much like Christmas, I spent the day in a drunken haze except this time I was at ye olde college bar instead of my parents’ house and with my best girlfriends instead of my parents. There was also a bit of flirting with potentially underage men, but we don’t need to go into too much detail about that.

Because it’s a college bar in a college town, there was a wide variety of teams represented and a lot of yelling that made it difficult to distinguish between what was happening on the various TVs, especially during the 11 (eleven!!!) early games. Luckily things quieted down during the afternoon games and I was able to focus completely on the Cowboys game…. at least until the frantically ordered bourbon set in. That said, here are the winners and losers in the fantasy world this past week, at least as viewed through my post-Christmas headache. Yikes.

Fantasy Scoreboard: Week 9

A picture's worth all my words

Editor’s Note:

As I’m sure all you loyal readers know, Makeda & I wrote a post last week about the best & worst NFL players in Halloween costumes. It was neither scientific nor comprehensive, but rather two friends having some fun at the expensive of professional athletes. In exciting news, that piece got picked up by NFL Memes & posted to The Daily Snark website. We got understandably excited about our brief brush with fame, but then it got even more exciting because we got a hater. Yes, ladies & gentlemen, we have arrived. An actual comment from our post on The Daily Snark:

Worst judges ever. I could find a group of 13 year olds with more logical opinions. THREAD GETS A 0/10 FUCK YOU MAKEDA AND LAUREN.

Thank you, random internet troll for making us feel special. Please note that here at Eligible Receiver we have never pretended to be logical, intelligent or have any idea what we’re talking about. We belong perfectly on a website called The Daily Snark, not The Daily Boring Logical People. If you’re looking for logic, look elsewhere. Troll on, motherfucker.

I watched the games on Sunday with the usual crew (minus Makeda who was en route back to DC from Tennessee). It’s important to note that the two male members of this crew were horrifically hungover from the previous night’s Halloween celebrations, during which one guy almost got us kicked out of a bar for stealing someone’s mask and throwing it away and the other guy tried to tell me that his “head of veterans was hard”. Despite the Gatorade chugging, groans of pain and pure insanity coming from these two, I was probably the most confused (and definitely the most sober) person on the couch on Sunday. How in the world did Nick Foles tie up Peyton Manning’s touchdown record? Who the hell is Riley Cooper? Did the Bucs really start off their game against the Seahawks 21-0? Did the Jets bounce back from their Cincinnati massacre and beat the Saints? IS THIS ALL A HALLOWEEN/DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TRICK?

Go For Two: Dolphins versus Falcons

What's the game of the week! Hmmm. Who should I pick to highlight .... ?

Uhh .... no one?

Week 3's games are yawn producing. Giants versus Panthers? Meh. Rams versus Cowboys? Meh. Browns versus Vikings? Double meh.

I'm trying to be a better blogger, and not just pick the Packers versus Bengals because the Packers are my team. Although, they may be one of the only competitive games between two potenial playoff contenders.

However, the game of the week is the 2-0 Miami Dolphins versus the 1-1 Atlanta Falcons.

Here's why I am picking it as the game of the week.

Go For Two: Playoffs! NFC Championship Game.

San Francisco at Atlanta Sunday 3:00PM ET

If you're not already excited about this game, there is no hope for you. Everyone wrote-off Atlanta, even this gal. But, some how, some way -- they got it done. Yet, that statement will be the focus of many questions going into this game for Atlanta. Why can't Atlanta get it done sooner in a game? Why is it always down to the wire? Why do the Falcons let teams creep back in?

Atlanta better have an answer to those questions this week. San Francisco was on fire during the entire regular season, but now? They are going nuclear. I know it first hand, I'm a Green Bay fan. Colin Kaepernick was clearly the right direction to go in for San Francisco. No hindsight needed. Green Bay could've beat Alex Smith. But Colin? Clearly not. Green Bay couldn't keep their heads on straight against Frank Gore, a hot passing game, plus Colin Kaepernick running all over us. The biggest insult? Oh, just a 56 yard run by Kaepernick for a TD.

Image courtesy of deadspin.comThis is what the Falcons get to look forward to. I only hope that Atlanta learned from our mistakes. We were actually doing pretty well until a muffed punt and Rodgers throwing an interception. Atlanta needs to keep the turnovers at zero. They need to keep Colin Kaepernick in the pocket and make him throw instead of run. The Falcons need to play an entire game, and not take a nap during the third quarter.

Good luck Atlanta. I hope you win.

Go For Two: Water Cooler Topics For Week 15

There are a lot of good games this week. It's coming down to the wire. I can't wait for some of these games. This is the time of the year I wish I had 4 televisions so I could watch all the games.

I'm pumped!

49ers (9-3-1) at Patriots (10-3) 8:20PM ET ** Game of the Week

Again, the Patriots are in the game of the week. Hmm. Interesting. The 49ers are still way up there on the best of the best in the NFC. However, with how they looked twice against the Rams, there is cause for concern. Then there are the Patriots. Man do they look good. They look fired up. They look ready for the playoffs to begin. It will be interesting to see how Brady and the Patriots do against the 49ers defense and vice versa. I'm excited for this game.

Anyone tryna go to Oregon?

Before I get into this week's fantasy scoreboard, I have two important announcements. One, this is my current view as I write this. It's ok to be jealous.

Two, my fantasy team officially crapped out this weekend and put the nail in the coffin for my season. RIP.

And now, without further ado, a lot of words that are less self-involved than the ones above.

Go For Two: Water Cooler Topics For Week 10

These are the games I will be watching, plus one that you can watch, if you want, but I won't ...

I want the Lions to win, but just this once.

Lions at Vikings 1:00PM ET

Lions are 4-4 and the Vikings are 5-4 in the NFC North. This is the toughest division in the NFL. Both teams have seen each other countless times before. There is bad blood. The Vikings, once the darlings of the NFC North, have lost their last two. There are many questioning this team right now. The Lions, on the other hand, have won their last two. Yet, they don't seem to have the same consistency of last year. Plus, too many come from behind, fourth quarter wins. The Lions need to gain consistency and play well in all four quarters of the game if they want to win this game.

More importantly, the Packers are 6-3. I know ... I'm supposed to be reporting on the Lions at Vikings game, but I can't help myself. I need the Lions to win so that the Vikings don't go 6-4. Yet, if the Lions win then they will be inching closer and closer to my Acme Packers. Yikes is the NFC North a tough division. But I can worry about the Lions later. Right now, GO LIONS.

Go For Two: Water Cooler Topics For Week 5

What are the games to watch in week 5?

Falcons at Redskins 1:00PM EST

The Falcons are 4-0. Matt Ryan has a league-leading 112.1 passer rating. Turner is an explosive running back and lets not forget Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons have an exciting offense and that makes for exciting football.

The Redskins are 2-2 coming off of a last minute win against Tampa Bay. They are still trying to decide who they are, but with the ability to come back against Tampa Bay in a last second win, that speaks well for their future.

Fantasy Scoreboard: Week 1

Let's take a moment to relive some of the best and worst moments in fantasy football this past week. In a week where 5 teams scored 40 or more points, there were bound to be some all-stars and some surprises. You might want to take a look at this and see if there's anyone you can grab (or get rid of) before the waivers go through.
