Fantasy Scoreboard: 2013 Week One

Football season is back. And with it, hearts full of optimism. Thousands upon thousands of fans full of the beautiful possibility of a winning season. The glimmer of the playoffs seems obtainable and a winning season is without a doubt going to happen. I think we all sat down Thursday night to watch the game full of the hope of 5 months of hard-fought battles and well-earned victories. It's like sitting in the East Dillon locker room letting Coach Taylor fill you with inspiration and the knowledge that the game is bigger than yourself.

"A few of you have been here. A few of you have not. One thing we all have to do tonight, we've got to focus. The game plan, the fundamentals, gentlemen, moving the sticks what we're going to be doing out there. And listen, fellas, there's a joy to this game, is there not? There's a passion, there's a reason why we're all out here. Other than the fact the pride that it gives us and the respect that it demands we love to play the game so let's go out there and have fun tonight. Do you understand? Because tomorrow, if you give 100% of yourself tonight people are going to look at you differently. People are going to think of you differently. And I promise you you're going look and think differently about yourself. Clear eyes, full hearts. Can't lose."

Oh Coach Taylor, how I wish you were a real person.

Games to watch in Week 13 ...

I'm sad all the time

Seahawks at Bears 1:00PM EST

This will be an interesting game. Seahawks (6-5) just lost their two starting cornerbacks due to failing tests for use of PED's. Chicago (8-3) just got Cutler back and showed that the Bears can not withstand to lose him. Remember last year Cutler was lost to the team late season and it cost the Bears the playoffs.

If playoffs started right now, the Bears are the 3rd seed and the Seahawks are the 6th. I can't stand the Seahawks or the Bears. However, as a Packers fan, I hate the Bears more and I can't root for a team that holds my coveted NFC North division winner slot.  I can't believe I'm going to say this ...

Go Seahawks.

I'll just rest here for a bit
Besides, I'll be right back here in two seconds
Thanks O Line!

Vikings at Packers 1:00PM EST

We all saw what happened to my beloved Packers (7-4) Sunday night. Wah-wah. They got decimated by the Giants. The Pack has something to prove, yet again. This time they have to prove they can beat a playoff worthy team.

The Vikings (6-5), on the other hand, came out super strong, and are now fizzling. The Vikings are most certainly in the playoff wildcard hunt.

This is a no brainer.

Go Pack.

Go For Two: Water Cooler Topics For Thanksgiving Day

Image courtesy of letsplayballtickets.comThanksgiving football ... such a time honored tradition. A tradition that is the most relevant in Detroit, which has hosted a turkey day game since 1934 (with a small gap between 1939-1944).

I grew up in Detroit. I, strangely enough, have fond memories of driving to Pontiac on Thanksgiving to meet friends tailgating OUTSIDE in the parking lots surrounding the Pontiac Silverdome. I would have on a huge winter coat, thick gloves, and a scarf wrapped around not only my neck, but my chin too. I would chat with my friends and see my breath in the air. Then the best part. Someone would open their trunk, pull out a card table, and place a steaming hot turkey on it. I would pull out a sweet potato casserole, and other friends would pull out a list of side dishes that would make your mouth water.

Eating was always a challenge in and of itself. You had the option of trying to eat with gloved fingers, or as some dare-devil friend would try and do, pull off their gloves and try to eat their food before their fingers froze off in the bitter cold.

We would then pack it all up and head off to the stadium. Bellies full, excited to get out of the cold, and pumped to see a football game on Thanksgiving Day. Bonded together from navigating eating turkey in Michigan's frigid winter air, we sometimes grab onto each other -- trying not to slip on ice as we walked toward the Silverdome.

Ah. Then comfortably in our seats, with the best part of the experience behind us, we would then focus on the other time honored tradition of Lions football on Thanksgiving -- the Lions losing.

Now that I live in San Francisco, I won't be able to participate in the tailgating part of the tradition, but I will be able to experience the second part of the Lions Turkey Day tradition. From my comfy chair in my tiny San Francisco apartment, I'll be able to watch the Lions lose their holiday football game.

Houston versus the Lions? Oh, man. This Thanksgiving for the Lions is gonna be ugly.

The football game you might actually want to watch is ...

Go For Two: Water Cooler Topics For Week 11

First of all, how can it already be week 11! That blows my mind. Secondly, I'm a little underwhelmed with the games this week.  However, these are the games to watch outside of your hometown favorites ...

Image courtesy of losthatsportsblog.comPackers at Lions 1:00PM ET

This game is important for the NFC North battle. Chicago is 7-2, Green Bay 6-3, Vikings 6-4, and the Lions are 4-5. Green Bay needs the win to keep up with Chicago (who plays the 49ers. This game should be interesting if both starting quarterbacks are out due to concussions.)

The Lions have been playing inconsistent, terrible football. Yet, they still pose a significant danger to the Pack, because the Lions have the potential to play well. Another factor is Green Bay has a tendency to lose leads and get lazy. The Lions, on the other hand, seem to only have the desire to play well in the fourth quarter.  Those idiosyncrasies could prove to be an interesting match-up.

GO PACKERS

Random Thoughts from Sunday

1. How could the Panthers lose against Chicago? That was super-duper annoying as a Green Bay fan.

Boo-hoo

2. Lions. Thank you for beating the Seahawks. Where's your annoying smile now Pete Carroll?

3. I know I picked the Saints to beat the Broncos, but I am super happy I was wrong. I love Peyton Manning. His return to football is an inspiration to anyone who has ever tried, or is trying, to recover from an injury.

4. Andy Reid considering going with a different QB than Vick? Ha ha Michael Vick. I can't wait to celebrate the day you are gone from football you dog killing piece of shit.

5. Tony Romo threw 3 interceptions in the first half and was down 23-0. It was a fun game to watch the Cowboys, no matter what you think of them, attempt a come back while stressing out Eli and Coughlin. I still don't like either team, but this was a fun game to watch.

6. Miami beating the Jets. Nice.

So ugly

7. The Steelers beat Washington. Of course they did. Washington was having a seizure every time they had to look at those disgusting, nauseating jerseys.

Divisional rivalry. Patriots are doing their quiet but steady winning thing again this year. No reason either the Jets or the Dolphins can't sneak up on the Patriots. Dolphins are 3-3. The Jets are 3-4. The weirdest part? The Dolphins, yes, I said it, the Dolphins are in the divisional hunt. You know what I say ... good for them. I hope they win.

Richard Sherman should bite his tongue

What games should you watch in week 7? This time my job is hard, because there are a lot of good games being played. I think if you're a fan of the NFL, or just want to be in the know, you need to plan your Sunday around watching football. There's nothing you can do about it.

What are the games to watch in week 5?

Falcons at Redskins 1:00PM EST

The Falcons are 4-0. Matt Ryan has a league-leading 112.1 passer rating. Turner is an explosive running back and lets not forget Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons have an exciting offense and that makes for exciting football.

The Redskins are 2-2 coming off of a last minute win against Tampa Bay. They are still trying to decide who they are, but with the ability to come back against Tampa Bay in a last second win, that speaks well for their future.

Fantasy Scoreboard: Week 4

s121001_11romo-4_3_r560

Tomorrow's my birthday. I've learned a lot of lessons in my first 26 years but today I learned a new one. Never wait until Tuesday morning to write your blog post when the Cowboys play MNF. ESPECIALLY don't wait if you have both Tony "Cinco" Romo and Dez "Butterfingers" Bryant on your team. This is the 4th version of this post that I've written and the only version that makes me think my dad won't call me worried and I won't get anonymous comments with tips to the suicide prevention hotline.

Without further ado, fantasy nonsense for those of you that haven't already written off your team...
