Go For Two: NFL Week 17 Games To Watch

rodbelt

I'd like to see some of this Sunday

Despite it being my team, really, the game of the week is the Lions at the Packers. It has huge implications, which I will get into below.

The NFL picked the Bengals at Steelers to be the game of the week and flexed it to the Sunday Night Football spot on NBC. This game, too, has similar implications -- winning the division title. However, unlike the Lions/Packers game, it is a lot harder for the Bengals to get a first round bye. The Lions/Packers game has much more significance because the winner will get a first round bye. Plus, in the entire NFL, home field means more for the Hawks and the Packers than it does for any other team. No one wants to go through Seattle or Green Bay. Green Bay won every single game at home this year.

Lions at Packers 4:25PM EST: Holy crap, this is for all the marbles. Lions versus Packers for the second seed and NFC North champs. This is huge for the Lions (I don't care, Go Pack!). The Lions have not won the division in 21 years. Does that even compute? Twenty-one years. The Lions haven't even won in Wisconsin since 1991. What? How is that even possible? Man, tough break, Lions.

An even tougher break is losing your center, Raiola, because your team is a bunch of idiots. Honestly, why even stomp on the guy's leg? What does that prove? How does that serve your team? You were playing the Bears, come on! However, to me, that wasn't even the worst. The helmet-to-helmet by Detroit Lions defensive end Ansah to Jimmy Clausen was too much. Ansah clearly is leading with his helmet, plus, his hands and arms aren't even in the equation. It was a kill shot.

One of the reasons I don't like the Lions is because they are dirty, dirty players. People don't want to root for your team because no one likes a bully. I thought Jim Caldwell had stopped this narrative from taking place. Apparently, not. I'd love to see what kind of facial reaction he had in regards to the suspension of Raiola. Does Caldwell even have an expression outside of no expression? I'm not even sure why he has a headset on during the games. He barely talks into the damn thing.

The complete opposite of the Lions, personality wise, are the Green Bay Packers. Everyone likes Aaron Rodgers. He's competitive, but not a jerk. Jordy Nelson? A farmer from Kansas. He shakes hands with his team after he gets a touchdown. Eddie Lacy? Buys his parents a house after hurricane Katrina. Ah, that's why the Packers are one of the most-liked teams in the NFL. Sorry, Cowboys, you are not America's team anymore. The difference between the Cowboys and other teams is this. If you are not a Chiefs fan, you don't hate the Chiefs. As for the Cowboys, if you aren't a fan, you hate them. To reiterate, I'm not a Raiders fan ... but I don't hate them. I HATE the Cowboys. Someone should do a stat on that. (Proof can be found in the latest out of Dallas. Dallas is pushing for Romo to be the MVP. Cowboys, THAT'S WHY WE HATE YOU!)

I'm just making the case for our win based on a popularity contest. Look, I don't care how we get the win, I just want the win.

Panthers at Falcons 4:25PM EST: Despite these two teams being sub par, there is nothing like win and you're in. I would put this game above others. I mean, (shrug), the Bengals are in. I don't really care if they move around in seeding. Seeding, to me, doesn't seem as important in the AFC. Yet, win or go home, now that has HUGE implications! As long as you can make it in, you always have a chance. Look at that happened for Green Bay in 2010? They made it in as a wild card and then went on to win the Super Bowl. That's why this game is so important! The most critical thing is just getting in. I certainly wouldn't rule out the Falcons being able to squeak a win out in the playoffs if they get in. The Cardinals with their 3rd string QB are now beatable. The Cowboys? I'm not sold on them. They are beatable.

I'm rooting for the Falcons. I like Julio Jones. I like Fitzgerald. I like Matt Ryan, but, apparently, who doesn't?

Good lucks Falcons.

Other important games are the Chargers at the Chiefs, and the Browns at the Ravens. For a more detailed account of what it will take for the Chargers or Ravens to get into the playoffs click this NFL.com link. It makes my head hurt, so thanks NFL for doing it for me.

Sideline Picks: College Week 13

15 Arizona vs 20 Utah

Pick Sideline Commentary
Jacqueline
18-12
Arizona's losses are higher quality losses, plus they beat Oregon. Does Rich Rod bounce to the SEC?
Lauren
15-15
Homer pick. I'm getting really into the phrase BEAR DOWN
Allen
17-13
There's always a lot of talk about how great college football's regular season is. Sure, except that for the last six weeks it's only great for about 5-6 teams.
LaNiece
13-17
What is the world coming to that we actually have to pick on such a lame game?

24 USC @ 11 UCLA

Pick Sideline Commentary
Jacqueline
18-12
My Pac12 guilt continues. I watch so few of these games, but UCLA seems to be on a roll. I like them over USC in a 'rivalry' game.
Lauren
15-15
I actually had a long talk about USC at the bar the other night. Started with a Clay Matthews mention, ended with me bitching about Reggie Bush. This sentence basically summarizes my entire life.
Allen
17-13
This pick is largely a result of my feelings concerning USC.
LaNiece
13-17
Just to be different but UCLA may drop the ball...ba-dum-cha (its been a long day)

Louisville vs Notre Dame

Pick Sideline Commentary
Jacqueline
18-12
This is an intriguing pick. Notre Dame has dropped two in a row, but they are still a decent team. Louisville is tough, but up and down. My head tells me Louisville, but my gut says Notre Dame.
Lauren
15-15
Be serious.
Allen
17-13
Now that the Irish have choked themselves out of contention, they'll win.
LaNiece
13-17
I am so mad at Notre Dame and that I even have to question this game therefore Louisville wins

Upset Special

Sort of random, but Iowa over Wisconsin. (9 points)

I actually looked at the schedule this week and am torn between two games. Oklahoma State over Baylor and Indiana over Ohio State. Can I have half credit for each? (9 points for OKSt. and 9.5 for Indy)
Allen

Wow, this is an awful week for college football. It's hard to find a remotely watchable game. Tennessee over Missouri, because Missouri sucks and a Vol win will send UGA to the SEC Championship Game. (5 points)
LaNiece

Arkansas over Ole Miss, yep already jumping off the bandwagon. (17 points)

Seven Shades of Red --- Ranking the Colors of SEC Nation

seven shades of red

The past few weeks my travels have taken me from Jacksonville to DC to Chesapeake, VA and back to Tampa again. It was wonderful to visit with many dear friends, but being the fall there was an underlying theme of our chatter. Football. SEC football to be specifically. It is late in the season and fun to predict SEC championship possibilities, but predictions is much too serious of a topic for this post.

Today we are discussing the Seven Shades of Red that rule the South. Those colors represent Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi St., South Carolina, and Texas A&M. After years of living in SEC country, people compare shades of red by matching the item to an SEC school. I am not just talking about the ladies either. I have heard some of my favorite men compare their golf bag colors to Arkansas red, which is followed up by a quick retort that it looks like Bama red to his fellow golf partner for the day.

Go For Two: NFL Week 11 Games To Watch

This what Bears, Steelers, and Saints fans looked like. Even Packer fans started to feel a bit bad for the Bears.

Week 10 had some amazing outcomes! Teams won, and lost, in spectacular fashion. Some, like my Green Bay Packers, demolished a terrible Bears team that, at one point, just started to make everyone uneasy -- much like the Eagles over the Panthers. Congrats to the NFL for another shitty Monday Night Football game. Lions are annoying us GBP fans by continually winning games this year in the final moments of the game that the Lions of yesteryear would have lost. Steelers keep doing there wow yay (!) and wow huh (?) routine -- winning by huge numbers against the Colts (score 51-34) and Ravens (score 43-23), then losing to the Jets (score 13-20)? The Jets? A 1-8, now 2-8 team? Saints versus Niners did not end the way I wanted it to, and that absolutely pisses me off. Drew Brees was not making the best decisions during that game, at one point throwing into triple coverage. Drew, baby, you're not 24 anymore. You may have, I know this is hard to hear, lost a little, a little ... not much! But, buddy, we all get older, we all lose a step or two. You gotta adjust. You're still great! Just ... adjust my friend.

Now, week 11. What games should you watch?

There are some big games this week:

Buffalo Bills (5-4) at Miami Dolphins (5-4): Big division game. Yes the Patriots lead the AFC East division at 7-2, but the wildcard seems to be wide open. There is still a lot of season left to be played, and no one can tell the future. Just ask the Patriots at the beginning of the season when they were supposedly finished. The Chiefs, Brown, and Bengals are all over the place with who they beat and who they don't. Therefore, big game for both Buffalo and Miami. Miami's loses were really, really close games. The games against the Lions and the Packers especially. If the Dolphins can just tweak their play a little bit, they could be in the playoffs.

Also, I'm kind of loving Tannehill. Did you see him chase down the Lions after the interception? Yeah, I know, he threw an interception, but that kid has some wheels .. and some guts! He was a total baller on the play. Too bad he is going into the divisional game with a bad knee and shoulder. Get well, Tannehill, I like what I'm seeing.

However, I can only care about this game so much as I don't get NFL Network.

Not this year

Lions (7-2) at Cardinals (8-1): Why, oh why Carson Palmer did you have to get hurt! I'm still a girl, and it makes me happy that so many fans, even Settle and Niners, are wishing him well. Too often fans get kind of ugly when it comes to injuries. Great job fans. Plus, it's a testament to how much everyone likes Carson Palmer. Good guy.

I'm a little worried about poor Drew Stanton against big, bad, awesome Suh. Suh has cleaned up his act this year and it shows. The decrease in Suh's penalties have really helped his team. The team overall has fewer penalties, which has led to more wins. This Lions defense is very, very good. It's ranked number one. Last week's win against the Dolphins was a statement win. Before that, the Lions had only played one team with a winning record. The win over the Dolphins proved the Lions legitimacy. Now, with two more games to go in the hard stretch of their schedule, they need to eek out another win. I believe a win against the Cardinals is much more likely that against the Patriots. Let's see how they do.

On a personal note, please, please, please Arizona win this game!

Eagles (7-2) at Packers (6-3): Big favor request here, can the Eagles be tired from the Monday night game? I guess that's a fool's wish as how could they be? The game was too easy against the Panthers.

Green Bay's defense sucks. Don't let the game against the Bears fool you. The Bears are terrible. We have not fixed our defense yet. An explosive team in the Philadelphia Eagles could really have their way with us. LeSean McCoy could have a huge game against us. Also, our special teams is also terrible. Please Green Bay, do NOT kick it to Darren Sproles. Just don't. Honestly, are you listening? Just DO. NOT. DO.IT.

Hopefully Mark Sanchez is too full of all that Philly Cheesesteak to move well in the pocket and Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers can have a huge day against the quarterback.

On our offense, we really need to get our run game going. We need to keep a high-powered offense like the Eagles off the field. Eddie Lacy seems to be having trouble this season. I don't know if the offensive line isn't creating enough holes for him, if Eddie is being too patient for holes to open up or what? He just seems to get stuffed real fast.

In my opinion, if Eddie Lacy can get the run game going, and our defense can stop the Eagles run game, Packers win.

This is a must win for both teams, as the Lions (7-2) and the Cowboys (7-3) are ahead in each respective division. Green Bay is only one game behind, but can not afford to be two. I know, obviously, but still. As of right now, the season really could come down to the last game for the Lions and Packers, as they play each other the final game of the season at Lambeau. What absolute craziness. As for the Eagles, they are neck-and-neck. This year, i would not want to leave my chances up to the wildcard in the NFC. The NFC is a madhouse this year.

Finally, wow. What another spectacularly bad MNF game. Steelers (6-4) at Titans (2-7). Who scheduled these games?

Fantasy Scoreboard 2014: Week 6

Guys, it’s been a hot minute. I apologize for being MIA on the blog for a few weeks, but I have lots to say today. First of all, I live in Arizona now. My life the past 10 days has consisted of a lot of this:

Pools + puppy snuggles = my life now

Pools + puppy snuggles = my life now

Also, I’m spending more time with my dad since he lives here and this is definitely not going to bode well for my football-spectator skills. As you might have gathered from previous posts, Papa SumSum has been a Steelers fan his whole life. Literally within an hour of arriving in Phoenix, my dad was telling me how after the Steelers lost to the Bucs, he took all his Steelers gear to Goodwill because he was over them. True story.

Did you know games come on 3 hours earlier here? IT’S FUCKING AMAZING. Night games are over by 9pm. This is literally going to change my life when the Cowboys play MNF in a few weeks.

Enough ramblings from me. I have plenty more to say, but you can read about it in this week’s Rants & Raves. Without further ado, here’s the best and worst fantasy moments from this past week.

Rants & Raves: Week 6

This week certainly made most of our blood pressures raise quite a bit. Things ended up for those of us on top (hellllllllo, 5-1), but for Jackie and Allen, well, I'll let them tell you themselves.

Go For Two: NFL week 6 games to watch

Matt Prater
3rd Lions kicker this season

I can not believe that we are already in week 6!

What?!

I'm still coming off the high that is a Green Bay win and a week of Lions and Bears losses. Ah. I really don't want to go into next week. I want to bask in the glory of it all cause you know it ain't gonna be pretty like that every week. Ask the Falcons (come on guys? Why couldn't you just beat the Giants!). The Browns want week 5 to live on forever as well, as they had the best 25 point comeback ever. What about semi-pro hair model Brady, who showed the world he wasn't done yet. Well, that's what week 6 is for. To take winners and make them losers, and losers and make them winners. Well, everyone except the Jaguars and the Raiders, they are just losers and I feel bad for them. Seriously. Real bad.

Here are the games that peak my interest...

Go For Two: Week 5 Games To Watch

cameron-thats-messed-up-modern-familyI really don't know what to say about this season. It's really all over the place. Atlanta destroyed the Buccaneers in a blowout and then the following week, Atlanta gets beat by the Vikings? Huh? The Bucs looked disastrous, but then the Bucs beat the Steelers? What is happening?

Things literally change week to week. It seems to me one has to now qualify what team you are talking about based on the week. Week 1 Kansas City Chiefs looked awful. Week 4 Kansas City Chiefs looked great.

Forrest Gump, you just never know what you're gonna get.

Some things we do know.

The Patriots are officially in trouble, as are the Jets, and the Saints.

Wait, did I just say the Saints?

The Saints are 1-3.

The Raiders are so shitty they just fired their coach, and no one even considers Jacksonville in any discussion other than terrible.

I think the biggest thing to gain from all of this is that unlike years past, you can't so easily pick who is going to win. Green Bay can't just look at their schedule and automatically count the Vikings as a win, nor can they automatically look at the Saints and think that's the hardest game coming up on the schedule. You also can't just say the Saints are good and the Vikings are bad. That's just not the case.

One thing still remains though, idiotic Cowboys fans.
